With its theme: 'The Struggle is Real', RevTalk has launched its second campaign last Aug 15, 2016 at the Bicol University Amphitheatre.
After its first ever campaign last July 29, 2016 with a theme: The value of Y. Revtalk or Revolution Evolution Talk, a launching program for information dissemination that is inspired from TED Talk . Rev Talk installed its second theme “The Struggle is Real”
Four speakers from different walks of life gave their talk regarding the said theme but with a defined topic,
With the topic, The Wage we crusade under the rainbow Banner Mr. Jerwin Macasinag Founder, BU Magenta shared the struggles of being an LGBT. Ms. Anna Marie Abril on the topic “Pushing through borders” all about her journey in struggling to finish college despite her physical disability, Dr. Renelyn E. Bautista, Associate Dean shares her experience of becoming a professional despite problems on her personal life on the topic “Walking down Professional’s path”
Lastly, the keynote speaker dubbed as “The Boy who cried books” a street kid who sells books to pursue law and now is finally studying Law and at the same time became an influential speaker, Justin Adriel De Castro shares his story about winning over life, one book at a time.
Interestingly, during his talk he wore a bandana covering his face and shared his journey in winning over life. He also inspired the students to read books and even shared his motto “provoke and be fictional” He explained that because of reading books, you can be anything that you want to be in this life.
“Basic, less facebook less internet less of that kasi its really ruining for what’s already damaged. Internet is a beautiful thing of course you can play, if you’re not using it properly but we use it to learn. Kelan huling tumingin yung isang bata sa ulap, kelan ulit siyang huking yumakap sa puno or nakipag usap kapwa tao. We could not remember it anymore. Less of the less important things in life, more of the important things in life yan ang message ko sa millennials", De Castro conveyed.
Moreover, REV Talk is an adaptation from TED Talk, an organization that aims to spread ideas usually in a form of short powerful talks.
“We aim to maximize what resources we have and I think its high time for us to be aware with what is happening in our surroundings what is happening in Bicol University or outside kasi we should never limit ourselves to what happening inside or whats happening in the classroom we need to expand our horizons to know more", according to Patrick Nota, organizer of the said talk.
Moreover, Nota also shared that the campaign also aims to spark meaningful conversations and will set the standard higher in the next RevTalks to come.
To reach a bigger audience, the organizers have also partnered with The Bicol Universitarian, Unesco Club, BU Debate Society, Tabaco Campus, BUCE, BUCIT CSC and BU Magenta.
