TAYO, BSP conduct Financial Literacy activity


Literacy Activity. Senior High School students listens to their orientation regarding financial and budgeting techniques.

Team Albay Youth Organization (TAYO) together with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) conducted a Financial Literacy Activity which was attended by Cabangan Senior High School students last September 22, 2016 at the BSP Multipurpose Hall, Legazpi City.

With the theme “Alam ko, Pera ko: Moving Towards Economic Development,” it aims to enlighten senior high school students about Philippine currency. Parallel to the current situation of economic development in the Philippines, it promoted awareness on financial matters.

It is essential for the youth sector that as early as now, they would be aware and be encouraged to save money, which is one of the most important medium of exchange and resource that should be managed wisely and efficiently.

According to Jiff Lamadrid, Youth Bureau Head on Livelihood of Team Albay Youth Organization (TAYO), "the youth is one of the biggest chunks in population to spread the information about how to earn money. Thus, they can be the people (youth) who can educate their fellow youth and families about who are authorized to make money, the history of money, features of money and the importance of money,” he added.

The activity also tackled the complex financial matters that are now being encountered by Filipinos that usually lead to different problems like retirees who receives little or no retirement fund at all.

Sharon B. Moyano, BSP Senior Research Instructor and the speaker of the event discussed that the youth needs to know that changes in the features of Philippine currency have already unfolded as well as the demonetization of old currency according to Presidential Decree 247.

Meanwhile, the participants shared what their insights and commendations based on what they learned in the said activity.

“Natutunan ko po kung paano magmanage ng pera, pagdedeposit tapos paghiwalay ng pera na hindi na pwedeng mag circulate sa perang pwede pang magamit,” Madel Avalos said.

In accordance, Lamadrid also said that people should be more open to the opportunities of learning and be participative to what is available around us.

“Maybe be more open siguro, marami kasing opportunies and dumadaan sa atin, kung hindi ka open hindi mo maientertain yung mga opportunities na yun,” he concluded.
