DOH V partners with Municipality of Daraga to build infirmary hospital

The Department of Health (DOH) V in partnership with the Municipality of Daraga will build an infirmary hospital In order to support the health needs of the people especially the Daraguenos.

The hospital will soon to rise at Dona Maria Subdivision, Tagas, Daraga, Albay and will serve as an alternative health unit for the residents with emergency cases.

The infirmary hospital is one of the projects of DOH V. It is a health institution that will not be classified as a hospital since only selected services will be given and just similar to an emergency room.

This is one of the solution of DOH to somehow lessen the patients in BRTTH and to provide a more conducive place for the patients.

The project also aims to avoid congestions in Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital (BRTTH). Sooner, with the infirmary it will bring decongestion to BRRTH specifically to the OB ward. However, there are certain limitations the infirmary cannot do.

Engr. Roegen Punzalan of DOH said that it has basic requirements such as birthing room and facilities but not enough since it does not have the so called ancillary which is the x-ray laboratory.

“Since BRTTH is congested already, there are instances that in one hospital bed, two pregnant women are using it at the same time. However, if there is a case of caesarian, the infirmary will refer the patient to the BRTTH. That is the only time the patient will be brought there” Punzalan added.

One of the problems that the municipality encounter is the location where the hospital will be constructed. Dona Maria Subdivision is a residential lot and there is no assurance that the homeowners would go for this project. Other than that, the Municipality of Daraga and the LGU are well prepared and they are just waiting for the budget to be given to them.

The fund for the project is already source out by the DOH central office through the request of Department of Budget and Management (DBM). The LGU Daraga is just waiting for the DBM office to release the money and will be directed to implementation of the project.

Moreover, according to Daraga Vice-Mayor Carlwyn Baldo, the infirmary will be a great help to the health needs of Daraguenos.
