For the next leaders of the nation

Young set of leaders that could withstand leadership in the barangay level as well as provide projects that would be beneficial to the youth and the community. These things would somehow would be visualized if we only allow the younger ones to do their way up into the Sanguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

As we can remember, the SK Reform Law was signed by Former President Benigno Simeon Aquino last January 15, 2016. The reform aims to have an age expansion for those who will run. Also, one of its goals is to suppress the political dynasty that has been an issue in the country. Financial Independence and Local

Youth Development Council (LYDC) are also included in the reform as well as the mandatory trainings and Linggo ng Kabataan.

Months after, the registration and printing of ballots underway in preparation for the October polls. With the reform, the SK elections and soon-to-be councils is expected to be different from the previous ones.

However, President Rodrigo Duterte backs up the postponement of the Barangay and SK elections. According to him, the election might be infiltrated with drug money if it pushes through since the country is under the influence of illegal drugs. Since he is the president of the country, his decision is powerful to anyone else.

Some people might agree with the postponement for they think that the SK Elections would only be taken by the young ones as the root of complications and corruptions. At a young age, they would really face the reality of politics wherein money is involve before, during and after elections. It might be an avenue to trigger corruption and other illegal matters that would stain the face of today’s generation.

On other hand, the president should think more than twice or thrice before concluding the postponement because the government already invested time, efforts and fund for it. Yes, fund that should otherwise use to other matters beneficial for the people. The SK elections should not be postponed because if there will be no youth councils, how can we mold the next leaders of this nation? Leaders are not just born, they should be made.

The postponement of the SK elections is indeed a waste of money and time. It would really be beneficial to have young leaders that could sustain the needs of their fellow young ones and to hear their grievances regarding certain matters and issues the nation have. In the edge of every situation, we should be careful by what to decide. The postponement is a big no-no considering that the SK Reform Law is already existing.

At the end of the day, there should be old and young people that are willing to listen and look for the real situation and needs of the Filipino people. Thus, the SK election would be a big help to encourage leadership and responsibility to the younger generations. We should be welcome to the governance of the younger people because no one knows if the great ideas for the country will come from the clever minds of the young ones.
