The Versatile Young Leader

“If you’re happy with the results of what you achieved, that's success itself.”

The Versatile Young Leader - Bicol University – University Student Council Chairperson and Student Regent, Former President of BU-UNESCO and Studied Global Sustainability at Asia Summer Program - Universiti Malaysia Perlis plus he was able to represent his Alma Mater to different countries. At the age of 21 years old, this young man has already achieved a lot of things that other aspire.

So who is the ‘Versatile Young Leader’ that we are referring to? Well, let us unveil the name behind these achievements. The 21-year-old Mining Engineering student of Bicol University College of Engineering, Patrick Anthony Nota is just like his Alma Mater which is indeed an exemplar of character, leadership, service and scholarship.

To be a Mining Engineering student do not hinder Mr. Nota from his passion on leadership. Imagine being the chairperson and regent of thousand students, not everyone will give it a try but for him, it was a challenge accepted.

While some are complaining on how they could balance the school loads and other commitments, Mr. Nota’s point of view about this is that you cannot choose one over the other especially that both of it are important and it is just a matter of adaptation.

“Medyo complex kasi ang buhay regular student at buhay council. May oras na you will choose one over the other. So many sacrifices and honestly, sabi nila, you are a student first before you are a leader pero para sakin, it still depends on the situation. You can never choose one over the other because both are commitments that you must act upon.”

Such an inspiring line for those aspiring leaders out there. It is just a proof that if you really love what you are doing, you will always find time for it because you are happy with it. Don’t worry, Mr. Nota shared some tips for those who aspire to serve wholeheartedly.

Meanwhile, aside from being a student and a leader, he is also passionate when it comes to cooking. This young man is also a certified bookworm, the photo above says it all. As a matter of fact, he shared one lesson from his favorite book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets that it is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.

Other than all the achievements that he got, Mr. Nota has one simple goal in life and that is to be happy - the real, genuine happiness that many are deprived. In times of failure, the best motivation that he have is to try not to fail again. So for everyone, don’t be afraid to try as it is part of learning and growing up. Success is not just about obtaining the material reward or title because for this young man, success is when you’re happy with the results of what you achieved.

“Regardless of who you’re doing it for, basta't ba'y masaya ka na nagawa mo ang isang bagay, malaki man o maliit, at ang proseso kung pano mo ito nagawa ay, para saiyo'y tama, that's success” He explained.

Few months from now, Mr. Nota will soon leave his Alma Mater and the council that he is serving for. When asked if what legacy he will leave to Bicol University, he answered that it’s going to be their events which

encourage students to participate and one example of it is the REVxTALKS.

“REVxTalks definitely. It's starting to make a mark to its audience. In the council itself, we hopefully will be the first one to present a complete and concise AR and FR. Wala kaming balak iwan na utang next year and let's see kung ano pa ang mga ganap these following months. We try to encourage as much student to participate in our activities. Kasi we try to our best of our ability to make our events worthwhile and we try to bring the heights of standard one step higher at a time. Events with impact, with value.” Nota furthered.

You might be wondering if what is his inspiration in life? Mr. Nota’s looking forward to the future version of himself. He said that to see who you want to become, regardless of the struggles to get there, inspires him to do better, or if not, best.

If we will think about it, yes, it is just right. The best version of yourself can be obtained through yourself. One must believe that he can for him to move forward with confidence and courage.

Overall, Mr. Patrick Anthony Nota has simple words to share with his fellow millennials and that is to explore.

“Sabi nila, possibilities are endless, and it's true. Even mathematics and mine economics agrees. Make the most of your years as a youth, an active, highly energetic youth,” Nota concluded.
